Battery Storage

Stationary batteries can be connected to distribution or transmission networks or power-generation assets, such as solar plants. Utility-scale storage capacity ranges from several megawatt-hours to hundreds of megawatt-hours and lithium-ion batteries are the most prevalent and mature type.

Hydrogen

Hydrogen is indispensable in the energy transition. It helps reduce carbon emissions from energy-intensive industries. Green Hydrogen can be produced from solar and wind assets, utilising off-grid installations and curtailed power from connected assets.  We are evaluating these innovations to see if our large-scale solar production is relevant for Hydrogen production.

Strategy

Shannon Energy will deliver Battery Storage solutions in all our Solar Parks and develop Hydrogen test installations

MARKET OVERVIEW

The Market
the Irish market is very similar to Germany which is one of the largest PV markets in the world. You need light not heat to generate electricity and Ireland produces an abundance of light.

The Projects

We have already identified over 300 MW capacity in excellent locations and have started the process of securing Planning and Grid Licence.
